Auburn Rotary Club Youth & Youth Exchange Programs
The Auburn Rotary Club offers various scholarships to graduating seniors from Tyburn Academy and Auburn High School. These include the Robert J. Henderson Criminal Justice Scholarships, Joseph A. Daloia Sr. Memorial Scholarship, and the Auburn Rotary Community Health scholarship.
In addition, the Auburn Rotary Club participates in CNY Rotary 7150 RYLA Program (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) every summer. This is open to high school students ages 15-18, and this event is usually three days where students from throughout Central NY are brought together. Applications are available from Tyburn Academy and Auburn High School in February of each year. Candidates are selected by May 1 of each year.
The Auburn Rotary Club also participates in inbound and outbound Youth Exchanges. We also seeking willing host families for those incoming students. For more information about this program, contact Ellen Ferro at [email protected] .
Over the years the annual Marty Ferro Memorial Golf Tournament has raised funds for various causes. In the past few years we've partnered with the United Way of Cayuga County to raise some monies for its various organization, many that deal with youth.
And the Auburn Rotary club sponsors a yearly bus trip for one classroom to visit Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY.
On the high school level, the Auburn Rotary Club sponsors a Vocational Speaker series where professionals from the area come in and speak to students at Auburn High. Sixteen speakers participate yearly, and more than 600 students participate in this program.
In another important program within Cayuga County, the Auburn Rotary Club partners with The Citizen newspaper and Seneca Cayuga Action Agency for the Warm The Children program. Monies are raised every year so that needy children receive warm winter clothing. This program serves hundreds of children every year. Coin canisters were distributed to various merchants throughout Cayuga County to raise additional funds. Many thanks to the Moravia, Aurora and Cato Rotary clubs for participating with us.
Finally, students from the Auburn area and parts of Cayuga County participated in the Holiday Mail For Heroes program where holiday cards are sent to deployed military, veterans, military families and injured and sick soldiers. 7,200 cards were signed and sent out to be distributed throughout the world.
